Does password protecting my NOD32 make it less likely than a virus can
shut it down and/or render it useless? I use the password to stop
settings being changed by other users.

Thanks.

It is more for the purpose of making sure no one can change the settings and thus decrease
the effectiveness of the AV software.

I know that's the function of the password protection, and I've already
optimized the settings, but am I wrong in thinking that most viruses
wouldn't be able to shut down an AV with a password in operation?

You're probably correct in believing it will stop SOME viruses from
shutting down your av. Certainly not all and most likely not the severe
viruses. If a virus is smart enough to shut down an av in the first
place then chances are it's smart enough to dodge a couple of "if"
statements in the av code. The password is (as mentioned above) more to
protect you from the viruses called "people viruses".

Yes, the majority if not all that have the capability will shutdown the AV software even if
password protected.

Try it yourself. See if you can kill the av processes using the task manager. If
you can, then so can any malware that gets control.

Hmm... great reply. Just also remember, that even if you can't kill it
using TM, a virus still quite possibly can.
