I have just installed XP (fresh install) on 2 machines.
When i try to access the other computer i get a password
logon screen. When i setup windows, i made only an
administrator account and set no password for that
account. I did not specify anywhere anything to do with
entering a password to access another machine. Before the
network was running on 1 XP and 1 ME and did not have this
prob. I can access another computer that also runs XP with
no probs at all, but cannot access the other one. How can
I remove the password screen to connect to the other
computer. The windows firewall is disabled but i run
McAfee Antivirus 6 with firewall. Any help would be
appreciated.

I ran into the same problem with a recent 'fresh' install
of XP Pro. The only solution that worked was to reformat
and reinstall the OS. The least desirable method, but I
didn't want to waste anymore time trying to diagnose and
repair the OS, which probably would have taken more time
than to reinstall.

Run the Network Setup Wizard on both computers to fully enable file
sharing. That's usually all that's needed to eliminate the password
prompt.
