Running windows xp pro with ie6 I have a stange problem from witch I can't
get rid of. The problem only ocours in ie and not in outlook . When I make a
connection the password apears 2 in the line and not 1 as it shout be. The
problem first acourt when I had to make a second external line. I will give
an example below.

loginname: starcopy
password: treetree

Where it sould be

loginname: starcopy
password: tree

I can't find nowhere in the registry (or else) a double line. Please help
me.

Greetings, Johan (Netherlands)

Hello Robert,

I will try to explane it better. The autosave is on. I retype the password
en make a connection. So far so good. The next time I will log on with ie6
putting the password for me, it will be put there twice like in the example.

loginname: starcopy
password: treetree

Where it sould be

loginname: starcopy
password: tree

I have tryed to clear all the password entry's in the connection and in the
other windows configs, restart the pc and fill in a new password. Bud gues
what, the same problem all over again. I deleted even the modemconnection en
made a new one bud the problem stay's. For so far I can determine the
problem sits in ie6 because the problem doesn't appear when using outlook.

I hope you have the info you need, I'm desperate. The only option I have
left is deleting XP and make a new installation.

Greetings, Johan

I have tryed to clear all the password entry's in the connection and in the
other windows configs, restart the pc and fill in a new password.

I'm still not sure that you have understood my point about Insert mode
but let's try a different tack. Also I think that there is more than one
way that passwords are saved but we are assuming that yours are being
managed by AutoComplete.

To test that assumption and perhaps fix your symptom at the same time
let's delete the saved password using the UI. E.g. rather than using
AutoComplete's Clear Passwords button try deleting the saved userid
in the normal manner for deleting AutoComplete form data (i.e. press
CursorDown to select the item you want to delete and then press Delete).
When you do that for a userid associated with a stored password you get
a prompt to that effect. So please confirm that you can get that prompt
and than the userid gets deleted. Then you can re-add the same userid
and then get the "do you want to save the password?" prompt when you
complete the logon.

Then, the next time you want to log on you may notice the password box
is blank (e.g. no asterisks to represent the hidden password).
Resist the temptation to retype your password and just have faith that
it will be there when you click on logon (after selecting your userid if
necessary of course) because it was saved from the first time.

Similarly, if there are asterisks in the password box but there seem
to be "too many" of them also resist the temptation to retype your
password. The number of asterisks may not necessarily coincide
with the number of characters in your password as a security measure
(e.g. to prevent others from guessing your password based on its length).

Good luck

Robert
