Password on a folder

Is there a way in XP Pro to put a password on a folder - like in Excel or
word when you have a file you wish to lock so others cannot access it
without first having the code?

No, but there are third-party programs that can provide this
facility. Do a google search.
 
Compress the folde
[File >> Send to >> Compressed (zipped) Folder]

then put a password on the compressed folde
[with the folder open, File >> Add a Password...]
