Password not recognised

I am using Access 97, and have added a password to my
database. The only thing is, is that I did this on Access
2000 which I don't have access to anymore. The password
is not recognised by my Access 97 software, even though
the password is only 4 characters long and they are all
alpha-numeric. Was setting the password on Access2000 the
cause? and if so is there any way of getting round it
other than using the 2000 software again?

Are you saying that you set a password using A2000, then saved that
(password protected) database in A97 format, & the password (that you
entered using A2000) does not work in A97?

The A2000 password is stored in a different format (within the mdb file) to
the A97 one. But I would have thought that the "save as old version" feature
should adjust the format accordingly. Perhaps not - and I don't have Access
here to check.

Before doing anything else, take a copy of your database, & put that away
somewhere safe! Then find A2000 somewhere, & see if you can open your db
with that. If so, erase the password & save it back to A97 format.

If you can't do any of that, there is code on the web to display the
database password from an A97 MDB. Do some googling for that.

HTH,
TC

I just tested this and the password converted back to 97 just fine.
Michelle, are you certain you are typing the password correctly (it is case
sensitive)?

Ok, at least they got *that* right :-)
