Mel

Hi there. I thought I would look through all the other
posts prior to putting mine in... I was lucky to find
others who have probs with their passwords with WinXP.
Just did an upgrade to it on Tues. I know my password,
heck I even confirmed it until I did a new install for my
virus protection. Well that wanted me to reboot so it
would take effect. No prob there. However when I went to
put in my password (I know it by heart, use it in other
venues of my daily life) and it doesn't recognize it. So I
had my mother try (I'm at work, hence a working pc and net
connection) and she did it word for word... I followed Mr
Soloman MS-MVP suggestion of typing ctrl-alt-delete twice.
Well it only allows characters up to the de then the
cursor stops moving! We tried the other suggestion of
starting in safe mode, this didn't get her far, instead of
safe mode, it popped her into how she wants to boot up,
cd, floppy and so on.

Please, if anyone can offer another suggestion around this
password issue, with point by point instructions, I'd be
most grateful. I miss my pc, and instead I've a lovely
picture to put in my password. Help! OH, yes, I am the
only one on the pc, so just one name. Setup for 1 person.
No networking or anything else.

Thanks so much!

K.... since doing it with 'type' (plz don't take that the
wrong way, but I am a literal type) tried doing it with
pressing the combo of cntrl-alt-delete key, this worked to
take my screen to a black screen with a small box with my
name: Mel and the password area. Here I had mom change
Mel to administrator and left the password blank. This
gave the horrible: you forgot your password blah blah.
Tried it with Mel and left the password blank. This didn't
work. What now??

I'm sorry for being dense, but I need help. =(

Mel, after pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del twice to bring up that other logon
screen... Type the following for user name: Administrator

For password:
If your Windows was preinstalled, leave this blank
If you installed Windows, enter the password you created for this account
during setup.

These steps should get you logged on with the builtin account named
Administrator. In Control Panel, click on User Accounts. Under Pick a task,
select Change an account. Use the next screens to change the password on
your usual everyday account. Log Off or restart. Now try logging on
normally using your usual account and the new password.
