Hoping for ideas...using XP Pro sp2 with fat 32. I had to files that were
password protected and never had a problem with them until today. One, Excel
2003, I cannot open the file with the correct password. The other, Intuit
Quicken user db file, had a password but I am no longer being prompted and
the file opens without the password. Is it possible that a registry file has
been corrupted or something else? Any ideas on how I can gain access to my
Excel file? Thanks!

I can't think of any way this could have happened on its own, unless your
file got corrupted. I suggest you post in an Excel group.

Re Quicken - check with Intuit support if you didn't change anything, or
just reset the password.

How many other users on this computer? Who else has admin rights? Is your
firewall enabled, and is your system fully patched via Windows Update &
Office Update?
