Password Expiration Notifcation

On a Window 2000 domain server, how do I to setup some
sort of notification to users that their password is going
to expire soon? I am pretty sure this can be done, but I
cannot find any material on it.

It should happen automatically when they log in: "Your password will expire
in X days."

Not sure what the trigger is (how early it warns them).
 
Unfortuntely, users will not actually be logging into this
domain. It is being used primarily as an exchange server
to manage voicemailboxes for a VOIP implementation. I am
looking for another way to notify users (ex: email) of
their passwords expiring.
 
Use Domain Security Policy and under local policies/security options configure the
option for prompt user to change password before expiration. --- Steve
 
Then how would they change the password anyway?
