password corruption?

We've got a user that has seemingly locked himself out of
access. Says he was experimenting with security, and then
was unable to open any of his access databases, unable to
open any of the shared databases on the lan, and we're
unable to create a new database. When we try to create a
new one on his machine, it asks for what we want to name
it, and then asks for the password, that he has
forgotten...

A reinstall of office does no good. Was wondering if
there's a registry key around that would wipe all security
settings out.

Any help would be appreciated.

Did he set a database password or monkey with user level security or
Security Wizard? If its the latter, a password isn't created unless he went
into Tools | Security | User and Group permissions and created one against a
specific user name. Try using just the username he created with no password.
If he did indeed create a user password against any user name (including
Admin), then you better hope he remembers it. Otherwise, tell him to get his
checkbook out and a third party company may be able to retrieve the
information.

If he set a password to the whole database, then it would only be applied to
that database.
