This is nice.

Standalone exe file. Fast, efficient, simple place to store your
passwords.

"Due to United States restrictions on the export of cryptographic materials,
Password Corral is for use in the US and Canada only. If you reside in
another country you may not download or use the program."

OMG :-(

What kind of 'ware' is it?
geocrippleware? embargoware?

Hi all,

I'm the creator of Password Corral.

In all honesty, I think it's okay to use Password Corral outside
of the US and Canada, and I'm probably going to remove the
statement from the 4.0 version when it's released.

Not too long ago, the US relaxed its rules for the export of
cryptographic materials, but I could never get a straight answer
as to whether Password Corral fell under this relaxed rule.
Try as I might, there was just too much government red tape, so
I kept that message in there just to be safe.

Big brother hasn't crashed though my door yet and confiscated my
PC, so I think I'll be safe in removing that restriction.

Heh...I kind of liked the "geocrippleware" comment! ;p

Hi jo, I mean Dave. BTW, I've used Password Corral for a while now.
Will hit you with a paypal donation soon - really appreciate the
program... You plan on continuing to develop it for awhile?

I just had a look at the info on the BXA site. Ouch. After reading
their guidelines and 'help', I have no idea what's permissible.

You might try contacting the EFF; maybe they could offer you some pro
bono legal advice on making sure nothing bad happens.

Yes, I plan to keep working on Password Corral. v4.0 is in beta now
(and has been for quite a while). My free time to program on Password
Corral hasn't been what it used to be, but I have no plans to stop
developing it. Thanks for the support!

Heh...no, Jo and I are not one in the same; he/she posted the original
post on their own. I just monitor the group now and then in case
someone happens to post a support question here.

While the program is a standalone .exe file, it is not designed to be
_portable_. The password files are stored in a pre-defined folder in the
My Documents folder of the logged-in user. While you can "export" and
"import" the password file, it is not well suited to, say, being able to
carry an encrypted password storage/retrieval setup on a removeable drive
like a keychain flash drive. Furthermore, it leaves that "footprint" which
may be undesireable if you are using a machine that is not yours.
The search goes on.

Hi Mike,

With the v4.0 beta, you can specify the location of the directory
that contains the password data file, so you can store it anywhere
on the PC. You should be able to store it on a key chain flash
drive, though I admit I don't own one of those, so I haven't been
able to test it on such a device. If you tried the v4.0 beta and
it didn't work for you on a removable flash device, please let
me know. Thanks!
