Passing a URL to another application instead of downloading it fir

At one point I could click on a link to a MPG file and have the URL open up
in a 3rd party application.

Now IE downloads the whole file and then opens that file it in the other
application.

I want IE to pass the URL to the other application instead of downloading
and passing the path to the local file.

How can I control how this is handled?

Thanks!!

Hi Bob :-)

You don't say what version of Windows you are using, but, a suggestion;

Open your Windows Explorer (not IE) and find a file that you want opened in
a specific program. Right click on it and select "Open with...." There
should be a list of programs to choose from, select the one you want to use
for that type of program and then click Apply or OK.

If the program is not there in the list, then close the box and while still
highlighting the file, click on Tools>File type and see if the program is
listed in that list. If so, click it and then Apply or OK. If it is not in
the list, and you know it is installed, then click on the Browse tab and go
to the folder where the program you want is located and select the program
icon or .exe. Click Apply or OK. This should bring the program type into
the list and you can then select it.

Doing this once should then open these files with the program you have
chosen if you select Run or Open on the dialog box.

Hope this helps.
