Are there any restrictions, such as the OEM disk restrictions lack of
ability upgrade or being tied to the first computer on which it's installed,
etc., in regard to WindowsXP Pro CD's labeled "Microsoft Partner Program"?

Hi Jim,

I don't believe any of those restrictions exist in the partner program
disks, they are basically a generic retail version. You should ask your
partner contact (you should have one, as those types of licenses do not
allow for distribution outside of the partner agreement - "internal use
only").

As far as the *being-tied-to-the-first-computer-it-is-installed-on* bit, I
think a MS Partner Program OEM Windows XP CD does indeed have exactly the
same restriction as any generic or branded OEM Windows XP distribution.

The Partner Program provides its members with a OEM Windows XP MCE single-PC
version, but with a *full* version Windows XP Professional CD with two or
more different keys that enable installation on as many machines. Other
software is included - the Windows XP Pro 64bit version is installable on
five different machines. MS Office 2003 Pro comes with several keys to a
single set of disks.

The restrictions on what and whose machines these software can be installed
on are spelled out in the "partnership agreement". And I believe that
registration has also to be done along with activation. And, I might be
wrong on this one, I believe the
"major-hardware-change-reinstallation-reactivation" situation is handled
somewhat a little differently than retail distributions.

This is AFAIK from someone who I occassionally work with and is enrolled in
the Partner Program.

Happy New Year!
