I have installed partition magic and now my machine will not boot, not even
in safe mode

please help

The diskettes are for opening the disk system, not starting Windows.

When you boot into Partition Magic, it shows you the various partitions on
your hard drives.
The C: drive that has Windows installed on it, must be a primary dos
partition and must be made active for the boot system to start Windows.

Once you Exit Partition Magic, the system reboots into Windows
automatically, unless you have made changes to the system files.

You may want to hit the *f8* key upon boot and select "Last Known Good
Configuration"...Does that work?

I had a similar problem a year ago, and in order to get back into Windows, I
had to boot into the Windows Recovery Console, and run chkdsk /r.

Once I did this I was able to boot back into XP.

Hope this helps.
