I partitioned my hard drive tokeep some things separate. Now I can't get rid of the partition even by running recovery, apparently because my recovery has a partition restore program built into it. How do I get rid of the partition and get my hard drive back to original spec?

To delete a partition, without losing any data, requires a third party tool.
eg Partition Magic

Yes, this is an excellent piece of software. I've used their stuff for
years. Be sure you get the latest version 8 for NTFS 3.1 (XP)

WARNING: There is a caution about merging partitions if one is a system
partition so DON'T DO THAT. You will need to copy the "data" partition to
CDs or something else. Delete it and the extend the system partition. Then
copy your data back to the system partition (or whatever). But DON'T merge
the system partition with any other partitions in XP.
