I am trying to set up a new primary partition on my hard
disk in order to try running my page file frome it.

However by following the windows instructions, I get the
cannot create partition message from the command line and
the windows set up does not make sense or cannot be done
ie. right clicking basic disk does nothing.

Any clues or links as to how this is done in WXP ?

To create a partition on a hard drive, you mast have available,
un0-allocated disk space on the hard drive. If there is not space left, you
can not create a new partition until you clear off older partition/used
space.

You can only set up a new partition *if* you have free, unpartitioned,
space left on the drive - which you probably do not.

It is in any case not really a good idea to put the page file in a
partition of its own on the same physical drive as the system. Putting
it on a different *drive* is another matter. The slow thing in getting
at disk files is seek time. Having it in a partition of its own, remote
as a result from the part of the disk where most 'action' is, increases
delays for seeking
