Is it possible to partitiona a main drive (C:) as an afterthought? I have
the operating system & all my programs installed, with a lot of free space
on my hard drive. I would like to add a partition, but really don't want to
re-format & load it all over again.
I currently have an 80 GB hard drive (states there is 74.4 GB total in
Properties). I have 63.2 free space.
Any help?

Hi

You will be able to do that with a 3rd party program such as Partition
Magic:

It is possible in some cases to partition unused portions of your hard drive. WinNT4.0 with service pack 4 can be configured to do so. Your best bet for reliability and system integrity, however, is to reformat your disk. Check your disk manufacturer's website for instructions. It takes some time, but your computer will run much better with all of that unused disk space optimally partitioned

I would recommend firstly to defragment your harddrive
with system tools from accessories from the start
programs menu. This will physically separate the used
space from the free space, and all your "stuff" will be
squeezed together on the hard drive instead of being all
spread out. take a look at the analysis after the
defrag. Now the easiest way i know how is to use a
program called partition magic. It is one of the few
that will let you partition your harddrive and let you
keep your data. I still recommend backups, although if
you can just load it back up again, it might be fun just
to try, and learn from what happened and them come back
to this forum and help all those lost souls.

p.s. i really learn a lot from this forum. i just keep
coming back for more :-)
