I would like to partition my 30 gig hard drive to speed things up.I have an HP 7920 with Windows ME that I have upgraded to Windows XP Home Edition how would I do that?I would appreciate all help.
Thank you.

Hi, The only thing it will speed up is defragging and doing chkdsk. To do
it you will want to purchase third party software like Partition Magic.

Hi Richard,

You would have to reformat the drive and re-install everything, unless you
used 3rd party software. For a drive that size, there is little benefit to
partitioning though. About your only gain would be in system maintenance
time, that is de-fragmenting, cleanup, etc. and I don't see that justifying
either reformatting or the purchase of DiskMagic or other software. To each
his/her own but, that's the way I see it.

Don't bother, it won't speed anything up

Hi again Richard,

There are some applications that are claimed to operate better when
installed to a different partition than the OS, preferably a separate HD.
The one that comes to mind in particular is PhotoShop, there are others.
Unless you use these programs for a living, my other post still
stands.....Except, I meant to say Partition Magic instead of Drive Magic.

Having more than a single partition will not accomplish speeding
things up. If anything it will make your system slightly slower,
since it spreads things out on the drive and causes greater head
movement back and forth between files.

WIndows has no ability to partition a drive non-destructively.
Your only choices are to start over with a clean installation
(losing everything on the drive) or to use a third-party
partitioning program like Partition Magic.
