I get a used computer whit corrupted Windows 2000, i didn`t know about. One
hard drive NTFS file system. After instalation of Windows Xp, rebooting and
got the option for booting from Wind. Xp prof, or Wind. 2000 prof.
Windows2000 not working, how can i eliminate that? Would like to have
partitioned in 3 or 4, on primary instal the Windows XP Prof., and the other
2-3 data and multimedia or anything else.
Never did this kind of thinks and i`m afraid a little. HD 20Gig, 128 RAM,
Intel Pentium 877Mhz, CD-ROM and Foppy drive. Any advice/help on how to start
to clean up the HD, what do i need to have, before get started would
apreciate that.(Sorry for my english...)
Regards

If I understand you correctly, you would 'delete' all partitions then create
new partitions to your liking. 20g should be one partition IMO.

Yes, start from there, what is "IMO" ?

"In My Opinion"

So, what is a good free or shareware utility for manipulating
partitions?

Have a look to see what the make of HD is then Goggle for the
manufacturers site. Most of them have very useful free downloadable
utilities that will help you achieve what you want.

From experience Maxblast4 from Maxtor is so easy to use.

Cheers.

GPARTED is a free live CD that will do this. Before using any
partition manager, back up anything valuable. If you make a
backup first, you probably won't need it. If you don't, you
may wish you had. Been there!

Set system to boot from CD. WinXP CD will give option to re patition
drive. Delere present partition and recreate new, format NTFS, then install.
