Hello-
My computer (an HP Pavillion 761n) was not starting
windows. It would get to the XP Home edition loading
screen and would reboot after a few minutes. I then
decided to install XP professional and boot the computer
from there. Upon recognizing that I was planning to
install the newer version, it said that I could partition
the new operating system to either the C drive, with all
my files and programs, or the F drive, with the system
configurations and settings. Not wanting to lose my
files, I partitioned the operating system to the F drive
and installed the new OS. Windows started fine and all
my files were saved, however my system settings were
deleted. All the drivers for the sound card, ethernet
card, CD-RW drive, and other cards that came pre-
installed on the computer were deleted. Apparently there
is an application recovery program that will restore all
the old drivers and programs, but that was deleted as
well. If anyone has any insight into this problem on how
to restore the original applications and drivers that
would be greatly beneficial.

Thanks,
Dave Severy

I've only recently started see HP do this because i bought
a new one just last month and i seen no recovery disk's
just that partition with the recovery on it i belive there
is no way to back up any data that was lost i would say
completely reformat to NTFS and install Windows XP Pro and
find drivers from the internet (Windows Update)

thats if you can't get HP to help you with this problem.
