I don't hate them, but they're obviously a little off base mentally to
think a tool can have a human attribute such as "friend". It's often an
attempt to use a buzzword and hopefully sound "authentic" and
knowledgeable, which is pretty dumb, I have to agree with that.
They're also, IMO, not all bastards, but many are bass turds<G>.

It's hard, I admit. Here's something you probably never thought of
doing:

Start your XP OS, click on Start, then click on Help & Support. Wait
while the screen comes up and fills in the left hand window for you. If
you haven't done something silly, that window will fill with lots of
relevant items for you to read and get the infor you want.
If that doesn't float your boat, then go to a search engine,
whichever one you prefer (I use Google quite a bit), and search for the
following, typing it exactly as shown:

xp +"partition hard drive"

Then press the button to do the search. You'll get a lot of hits.
Start wading through them, throwing out the ones that don't apply, are
about something else, off topic and simple troll fests and are from
those with no business being in front of a keyboard, and what's left
might have an anwser or two for you.
If you want more hits like that, remove the + sign and search again.
If that's still not enough, remove the quote marks; that'll get you the
most hits.

I know that's really complex, but it's only a little more complex than
using the Help & Support already on your computer and which, when I
checked it, came up with several very good references to check. But I
had to type in the word "partition" and click Find first, so ... don't
screw up; liberty's good.

If that's no help, come on back and word your question more precisely so
it's more obvious what your level of expertise is, and people can try
again to answer your questions, maybe even more accurately with the
foregoing information.
