I have XP Home edition. I want to partition my disk drive. Is this not possible with XP Home? Are there any command line options to partition the same
Thank
Shankar

Without a destructive format, no
You can use a third party tool, eg Partition Magic without data loss.

Thanks for the response DL. What is Destructive Format? Is it loss of data? Then, I am OK. Could you please explain the meaning and consequences of Destructive Format

Hi,

To repartition without destroying what you have requires the use of third
party partitioning software. The WinXP disk manager (diskmgmt.msc) is only
capable of creating new partitions from unused free space on the drive or
deleting the ones you have, it cannot dynamically resize existing ones to
make space for the creation of new ones.

Partitioning programs:

BootIT NG www.terabyteunlimited.com
Partition Magic www.powerquest.com/partitionmagic
Partition Commander http://www.v-com.com/product/pc_ind.html
Ranish Partition Manager http://www.ranish.com/part/

Be aware that any partitioning work has some inherent dangers, and that you
should backup anything you cannot afford to lose before you do anything. Any
partitioning program's instructions should be read in full BEFORE you deploy
the software.

Destructive format means you lose everything on the disk. ie its destructive
You finish up with a 'virgin disk'
