Tried the built-in partition mgr but it does not shrink the partition much.

Can it use partition magic 8 on it?

Thanks

As this group has "XP" in the title, you will get better answers posting to
one with "vista" in the title instead....

"Windows Vista Community-Discussions in Installation & Setup"

That is where you are, NOT XP

Look at the message headers - it's been crossposted to
microsoft.public.WINDOWSXP.help_and_support......

Which partition is it? Have you read the help files for the shrink
feature, in particular:

"Additional considerations
When you shrink a partition, unmovable files (for example, the page file or
the shadow copy storage area) are not automatically relocated and you can
not decrease the allocated space beyond the point where the unmovable files
are located. If you need to shrink the partition further, move the page file
to another disk, delete the stored shadow copies, shrink the volume, and
then move the page file back to the disk."

Mick,

If you look carefully, you will notice that the post was in fact crossposted
to a couple of groups.

- microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support
- microsoft.public.windows.vista.installation_setup

Now - if you will notice - the first one *is* a Windows XP discussion
newsgroup.

While you may have read the conversation while in
microsoft.public.windows.vista.installation_setup, you replied to both of
the above newsgroups and one second of glancing up to see what newsgroups
you were about to post to would have shown you that.

Admittedly, one could come to the conclusion that Gordon made the same
mistake - not noticing the crosspost. If Gordon had noticed, I would have
thought a better wording for the response would be something along these
lines:

gs,

You have chosen to crosspost to a non-Windows Vista newsgroup in addition to
posting to a Vista newsgroup. I doubt you will get many viable hits from a
non-Vista newsgroup when your question centers around Windows Vista.

As for using Partition Magic on Windows Vista <-- the last time Partition
Magic was updated was years ago - I would venture to say "use at your own
peril."

Do not use Partition Magic 8 for any Vista procedures. Get the Vista
compatible version. You may seem to get okay results, but early on before
there was a Vista compatible version many reported having problems later.
Vista does use a slightly different NTFS than XP used
