Partition Question

I have a new laptop with Win XP Home SP2 and applications
pre-installed. I'd like to make a partition and keep my documents
separate from the OS & Apps.

Is that possible?

Yes, you can.

Open Windows Explorer, right click the My Documents folder and select the Target Tab. Click the Move Button. Select the drive partition where you wish to relocate the folder and press OK/Apply/OK.

Why do people make things so complicated when answering posts.

Windows XP does not have partitioning software for after the fact. If you
currently have a C: drive and want to break it up, you need to save it off
first, repartition C: to be smaller, then create a new partition for the
remainder of the free space.

Windows XP does not permit you to do this without reinstalling/reformating.

However, there are third party applications (Acronis True Image, Symantec
Partition Magic, System Commander (www.v-com.com), and others. These allow
you to repartition existing partitions in order to add new partitions.

Sorry, I posted with the right information to the wrong thread. :(

XP does allows you to create partitions, but, you can only create a partition on the C: drive in XP if you have unallocated space at the end of that drive. Otherwise you need to reinstall XP and create the partitions during the install.

To perform a non-destructive partition on the C: drive, you need to use a third party program such as Partition Magic, Acronis Disk Director or BootIT NG.
