When I had some work done the guy said it'd be much better
if i had a partition on my PC so i could store games
etc.He did this but i think he must have got it wrong ,it
appears he has left me only 1GB on my original drive,
where all my operating software etc. is , and 200 GB on
this new partition. Now i'm consantly being told things
won't load because of not enough memory.
My first question is if i deleted the new partition would
all the memory go back to the original C: drive and
everything be as it was?
Secondly i've actually tried to delete the new partition
but it says i can't because it has an active pagefile.

Any ideas please ? I've been told that i'll probably have
to reformat the whole lot.
Thanks.

Your space will not simply be reallocated after deleting the 200GB partiton.
You will need to use a program such as Partition Magic to allocate the space
back to your root disk. As for not being able to delete the partition due
to active page file, you can move your page file as follows:

Start
Settings
Control Panel
System
Advanced
Perfomance Options

The location may vary slightly since I am pulling this from memory.

Next you will see an area that says page file.

You will need to make a new page file on your C: disk then you will be able
to set the page file on D: to 0, after doing this you will be able to delete
the partition. My best suggestion would be to use a program called ghost,
by symantec. Ghost your OS and all your data to a temporary location (cd,
second hdd, network system) then repartition with FDISK, after the partition
has been recreated to the proper size (no real reason to have multiple
partitions unless you are using multiple OS's or you have a server and want
to protect your data from an os corruption) you will ghost the OS and data
intact on to the newly size partition.

Hope this help, and BTW if your not familiar with Ghost or FDISK I would
start out with Partition Magic. But ALWAYS backup your data before making
any changes.

Good Luck,

Jeff

Wow, that's a lot of work there Jeff... here's my
suggestion.

If he only left you 1GB of space on your primary system
partition, then I'm guessing you haven't done much as of
yet on the system. Reformat and repartition it all to ONE
drive. Ignore him because he's stuck in 1995 with Fat16,
when it WAS a good idea to have one <1GB drive for your
system, another for your games, another for your apps,
etc... There is almost NO difference beyond the potential
for fragmentation between sticking everything on one drive
and sticking it all on different drives.

If you want to avoid fragmentation and maintain your
system performance, you should install the OS to one
partition and ALL apps to another, including MS Office,
productivity, graphics, games, whatever. The system is
the only thing that accesses frequently enough to make
that much of a difference so if you're trying to save
yourself from screwing that up, be hardcore about it.
