Hi,

Any body know how to partition a drive without give up the program i installed on C:? I have a acer drive whichi need to extend C:, for it is not enough for me now to install any more program, and also aweful speed for internet.

Not that i'm aware of.

You have some options though

You could remove programs you are not using to make more space.

Create a file called programs on the D: partition and install it there.

Reinstall your O/S and make the C: drive bigger.

Are you using XP or Vista?

Hello Penranth & Welcome to the PCReview Forums

You will need to give us a lot more detail if you would like specific answers to specific questions.

It IS possible to extend your C: *without* having to reinstall Windows or lose any Programs....
But you need to get the storage from somewhere...
Sooooo how about telling us the full capacity of your drive?
How many partitions do you have at the moment?
How much free space do you have on each partition?
A simple and cheap option would be to buy an external USB disk to copy over non essential data, like multi-media etc.
This also serves as a back up device, which you will certainly need to have before you start changing partition sizes. :)

Dont Acers normally have 2 partitions?
1 for Data & 1 for Programs, may need to be careful how you resize them.
As the Data one is used for backup or restore?

Thank you.

Following are some details of my drive:
1DI have two partitions only. One for program and other for data..
2. old drive with 40G
3. partition for program is only 10G
4. Windows Xp
I do not want to install all the program again, it will waste a lot of time. meanwhile. i think i should buy a new drive with large capacity. if i do this, how can i transfer the data on the old drive to the new one without any loss of data.

Is it a laptop or a pc ? Makes a difference as to what we can advise.

A program named Acronis true image will do what you require. It costs £40.00 or you can download a trial version to try free for 14 days or so.

Acronis True Image link

Fit your new hard drive and format it to NTFS in Windows.

Install Acronis True Image.

Clone Drive C to your new drive using Acronis true image.

Swap hard drive connections making your new drive C and your old drive a secondary drive.

Boot system and format your old drive within Windows.

If desired, backup Operating System to old formatted drive and make a boot CD using Acronis True Image.

thank you for your advise, i have tried to search some partition tools for my problem, also includes the program you suggested. And i found some software for partition, such as EASEUS Partition Manager,Partition Logic and so on. I don't know which tool is suitable for me. I am afraid of my data will be loss during partition.
