I want to partition the hard drive on my new computer,
loaded with XP. I have tried partitoning through the XP
setup disk, but the c drive cannot be deleted. My
understanding is that the c-drive must be deleted so 2
smaller partitions can replace the one big drive.

Any information is welcome.
Thanks, Jim

I bought Partition magic 8 for my systems to change the partition without losing data. If you don't want to go through that, though, you can re-install Windows XP and during the setup, format the C: drive with only the amount of space you want to use. For example, on a 30 GB drive, I have a 10 GB C: partition and a 20GB D: partition. When I did the initial XP setup, I would have chosen to delete any drives, then create them with the necessary space

Either way is up to you. Partition magic is easier, and doesn't require that you lose any data, but it does cost. I think I got mine (although it was an upgrade) for a decent price at a local shop. You can also get it online at http://www.powerquest.com/ in their online storefront
