I am attempting to recover a hard drive that errored during a partition resize using partition Magic 8.0. The system Froze at 93% of completion, and then the power went out. When I rebooted the computer, The Hard Drive would not load. I connected the hard drive to a different computer, and the Partition was labeled PqRT and I could not access any of the information in the drive. In a forum I read that a program called "Test Disk" could fix the boot sector (system is FAT32). I ran the program and I was able to access the drive. The problem is though, there was about 13GB of Data, and the only files showing in the drive were a couple of Kb. The pie graph that shows the size of the drive still showed the 13GB out of 20GB being used. (seriously confused at this point).

So... I went to Download.com and found the program "Recover My Files", and seeing that it was pulling up files, I purchased it. First I tried the option, "Complete File Search" The program froze at the same file #14740 the three times that I tried running the program. (Task Manager showing "Non-Responsive")

Next... (Even though the drive still has not been formatted) I tried the "Fast Format Recover" option which ran all the way until it read "reading Files" and froze there. I moved the status window to the bottom of my screen, and was able to select the boxes showing the types of files that had been recovered and save them to a separate hard drive. total of (1.79GB) . All of the files have the file extension .CHK... ~What can I do with these files?~

In all desperation I am seeking some serious help.

-Will I ever get to a point to where I will be able to boot off of the hard drive again, and have not lost all of the programs and data?

-What am I supposed to do with all of the files that the program recovered that are in the .CHK format?

-Where can I find the best documentation for the "Recover My Files Program?"

-Can I Start over? What should I do? I am running completely Blind!

Sorry, but in all honesty you is F'ed ... if you have the money to spare, and the data is importent enough, you will need the services of the pros.

Your computer creates these .chk files automatically each time you run a disk scan and it finds errors on the hard disk or any time your computer locks up or a program crashes resulting in open files not closing properly. The contents of .chk files are essentially file fragments that are no longer linked properly to an application.

You may find a program to "recover" .CHK files, they do exist, but I don't hold out any hope of you gettin your data back.

Reformat, and start from scratch. Sorry. :(

Oh, welcome to the forums. :)

Data Corrupted Due to restart of computer, when partition magic 8 was working

My system specification is intel 915 GLVGL Motherboard, 256 MB RAM, 2.66 Processor Intel Original, 80 GB HDD IBM.

Problem is i have 5 partitions and i was tring to move some free space of 6 GB Drive Name (I: Fat32) to merge with partition Name (F: of 33 GB NTFS) by using partition magic 8. i restarted to do the process . it restarted and started the procedure when it was on 27% and showing that moving data i mistakenly interrupted the system and restarted it because it was taking time. so when i restarted and i tried to play a song from drive F: it played the many songs mixed with each other, i mean it is playing 3 or 4 songs in one song. i am too much worried about the problem as i have too many good songs in this drive.

so what to do now to correct this problem so that when i click a song it play only that one.

anyone help me to get rid of this problem, please?

It would be better to start your own thread for this as this will help folk to help you . Seperated threads for seperate problems makes life much easier for everyone .

I think that you will have lost the contents of both of those partitions . See what other folks say though .

Here is a tool which can help you to repair or recover your partition especially when damaged by some partition software like Partition Magic.
