Hello Folks,

I just upgraded an old Win98 systems to W2K. In the
previous config, there were two partitions on a 40GB HD.
The upgrade went okay but I'm left with a 15GB primary W2K
partition (NTFS) and the balance 22GB is unallocated. What
I really want is one primary windows partition using all
of my 40GB HD as one continous drive. Any ideas of how to
add the unallocated space without starting all over?

Thanks,

Tom

First, I'd advise against one humungous partition - it's a bad idea for a
variety of reasons, which I won't bore you with. but the most important is
data safety. A data partition won't be touched when (not if) you have to
repair or reinstall W2K.

However, if you insist:

A) with Partition Magic you can simply enlarge C: to use the whole drive. PM
is worth getting. Some of those magazines that include a CD offer demo
versions of it, but I have no idea what features if any are crippled on
those. If you upgrade machines yourself, it's worth paying for the full
version, which also includes a boot manager and a disk imager. It's one of
those utilities that you rarely need, but when you do, it's worth every
penny. There are other utilities that will do the same thing, but I can't
advise you on those..

B) Based on my reading about it, converting the drive to a Dynamic Disk may
fulfill your desires. I don't use DD, because I've noticed too many
complaints about it on this NG - it has serious problems, and IMO it's not a
mature technology. But read up on it, consult someone you know personally who
uses it, and make up your own mind. NB: once you have converted the drive to
DD, you can _not_ unconvert it.
