Partition fills up

An associate at work is having a problem with his Compaq Deskpro. The
C drive shows as being full. He'll erase the CHK and temp files yet
the drive still shows as being full. Scandisk gets caught in a loop
and will not go beyond 2%. Compaq Diagnostic utility either can't run
or doesn't find anything. (not sure which he said) Norton anit-virus
reports nothing.

Ideas?

No. Uses Norton Corporate Edition. Win98

He mentioned today a large amount of filenames with huge address
lines. Like 66 characters plus.
