I installed a new hard drive and the only way I can
install 2000 pro is to partition a little under 10 GB of
the 40 GB drive and format it. The other part of the disk
does not even show up in disk management. How do I get to
use the whole hard drive. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

What does cmos setup report for drive size?

.

If you are using fdisk, format the second parition. After
installing windows 2000 pro , goto My computer and right
click on the local disk and click format the second
partition. after that goto disk management and see whether
the second partition is showing or not.

cmos shows a 40 Gig which it is but I have to partition it
to get W2k to load. Then when loaded it only shows less
than 10 GB and doesn't show any unused space.

Sounds like the mb and or system bios may not be Windows 2000 compliant.
Check the pc or mb manufacturer's web site for updates.
