I have a 120 gig disk that is partitioned as 15 gig for C-Drive and the
rest as D-Drive. I noticed WinXP has a partitioning program. Can I
safely re-partition my drive to only be one big 120 gig C-Drive???

Or can I move the partition to something like 50 gig for C-Drive and the
rest as D-Drive?

If I do move or delete the partition, will all my programs, that I have
installed on D-drive, still work?

I know there are other partition programs that does this, but if WinXP
partioning works, its cheaper to use it.

Thanks in advance.

XP's DiskPart utility is capable of only partitioning a hard drive that is empty
or has "unallocated" free space.
For example, if you were to install a new second drive, DiskPart can be
used to partition and format it. DiskPart cannot segregate current files from
free space, therefore, only a sophisticated third-party partitioning program,
such as Partition Magic 8 , can be used with a drive that already has Windows XP
installed.

The only way you can create, delete, resize or merge existing partitions,
and not harm your existing Windows installation, is to purchase and use
a third-party partitioning program such as Partition Magic 8.

The alternative is to perform a "clean install" of Windows XP:

Yes, but that entails losing the entire contents of the drive. To
do what you want non-destructively requires the use of a
third-party utility, such as partition magic.

Or can I move the partition to something like 50 gig for C-Drive and the

Same answer as above.

No. If you use third-party software and those problems will then
be installed on C: (or anything but D:) all the many references
to them, in the Registry and elsewhere, will be wrong. There is
third-party software that purports to find these references and
fix them, but my experience with has been that it finds most, but
not all, of the references. It's best to uninstall and then
reinstall after changing the partition structure.

you should really have someone who knows what they are doing tackle this
task....... and do it with decent software like Part Magic....caus' YOU are
goin' be back here "BEGGING" for help to undo you massive mess up....OK....
