I have a computer that is normally not allowed access to the internet, but
was accidentally connected one day. A few minutes later, when the connection
was discovered, it was immediately disconnected. Now, every time the
computer boots up, it tells me that it has updates ready to install. I
cannot imagine that it downloaded complete updates in the short amount of
time it had available, and it was actively transferring data when the
connection was severed. How can I make sure the computer will not be thrown
into a tailspin by trying to install an incomplete update. Also, how can I
clear it so it will download complete updates when I decide that I want it to
do so? Thanks, Lon

If it says it has updates ready to install - it downloaded some.
It will not tell you they are ready to install until they have been verified
as fully downloaded.

It certainly did download updates if it's telling you it did so.

You can easily prevent this by simply turnung Automatic Updates *off* in
Control Panel.

HTH
-pk

Automatic updates is turned off. I have two computers in addition to this
one that are connected to the internet, and they both have updates turned
off, but they do it anyway. Doesn't seem to matter. At this point, the
damage is already done. What I need to do is undo what is already downloaded.
I need to a) somehow reset what has partially downloaded and, b) clear out
that "updates ready" message.

Thanks, Lon
