You've got the idea..
FWIW when I'm working on a big project -- I usually do it as a series of
small projects -- i.e. one .MSWMM project file per scene or sequence (often
this works out something like 3-10 minutes per MSWMM file. This way I
produces a series of managable projects. It also makes it much easier if I
need to go back and tweak a scene near the beginning -- if it was one big
project I'd end up having to making fixups all the way down the timeline!!!
But with a big project broken up as a series of small projects this is much
more manageable.
Then how I integrate all the scenes into a single show depends on how I'm
going to present the final product.
o) In the case of presentation where I can simply hook up my laptop to a
projector - I create a .WPL or .ASX file using Windows Media Player to play
the scene files in sequence. This is the fastest, the only downside is there
is brief period of "black silence" between each scene. If I've made my scene
breaks in good alignment with the story this often feels natural.
o) If the output format is a DVD+-R -- The DVD burning software I use
allows you to import multiple .WMV files -- and this sort of fits naturally
into a chapter structure for the DVD.
o) Finally if the output format is mini-DV, I'll import all the scenes "Save
Movie File" files back into MM (with shot-detection unchecked) and drag all
the scenes to the timeline in the right order and use that to publish back to
tape.
Hope that helps..

Thanks so much for responding. I re-named the project,
Now this gives me 2 projects with the same content. Is
this what you had in mind? I loaded the re-named project
and deleted all but the clips I wanted to test on camera.
Well that worked, Then I delete the re-named project.
it's kind of a long way around, if this is not what you
had in mind, if you have time please let me know.

Hi Roger-
To save part of your Windows Movie Maker project to
tape
in a DV camera, you
can try the following:
1. In Windows Movie Maker, on the File menu, click
Save
Project As.
2. Give the project a new name, and then click Save.
3. Now, on the timeline, edit the video clip (by
trimming
or splitting), so
only the part you want to test appears on the timeline.
4. Connect your DV camera using an IEEE 1394 cable to your computer, and
then power on the camera into the VCR/VTR mode.
5. On the File menu, click Save Movie File, and then click DV Camera. Follow
the steps in the wizard to save only that part back to tape.
I hope this helps.

Hi everyone,
Is it possible to put just part of a movie project
on
the
camera? There is one section I want to see how it
looks
on
film but I'm not ready to put the entire project on the
camera yet. I couldn't find anything in help that
referred to this nor could I find anything in Papa John's
book. Thanks If someone can help me,
Roger
