parental control block

What happened to my regular msn email application? As of right now, it tells
me that there has been a parental control block on my email, and I can not
receive or send emails. I have numerous emails in que that I would like to
open, and it looks like maybe this stupid microsoft public windows program.
Which by the way, I know nothing about. Please do whatever you have to, to
remove the block on my msn email program. I would like to know that you did
get this message, but am not sure if you could even send it to me. I have
had nothing but problems after problems with your sloppy vista program.
Please tell me how I can get rid of it - I'd rather have XP.

An extremely irritated and unsatisfied customer!

What happened to my regular msn email application?

Are you referring to MSN Mail? Are you an MSN Premium subscriber? Did you
install Windows Live Essentials suite which includes Windows Live Family
Safety?
...Please do whatever you have to, to

No one here represents or works for Microsoft, Pat (although an MSN
representative checks post in MSN Discussion newsgroup on occasion).

Do you have children? These days kids know more about computers than many
parents. They might be playing a joke on you or something such as that. When
children are around, ignorance of computers can be dangerous.

Pat,
This newsgroup is a peer to peer forum, not a direct link to Msft or Msn support.

Is your account the primary account of an Msn Premium Subscription. ?

Were you or someone else using MSn Premium software(e.g. MSn Explorer) ?

Did you create the primary account for an Msn Premium subscription(Fyi...A credit card would have been necessary) ?

Has anyone, you or someon else previously configured that account as a sub-account(not the primary account on a subscription plan)

Plain Hotmail accounts do not have parental blocking unless Windows Live Family Safety is being used to monitor the account and
allow or deny access to the account.

If this is a premium account, Msn support may ask to speak to and identify the credit card holder.
For premium accounts start by contacting MSn at http://support.msn.com. After successful logon with the primary account
username/pw one will find options for phone, chat, and email support.

Having the same problem myself. Just started on Sept. 1, 2009. Driving me
crazy. I’m the account administrator and MSN is free with Verizon DSL (MSN
Premium). No credit card used. When I go to parental control (MSN Safety on
toolbar) the only option I have is “family safetyâ€. I’m the only one who
uses the computer so no changes have been made to settings. I also use MSN
Explorer. Did install Windows Live but only after the problem started. Get
this message from MSN.

E-mail not allowed.
This account has been restricted using parental controls. You cannot send
or receive e-mail using this account.

Quick fix. When you start MSN go to mail (not envelope on tool bar) and
this took me to Hot Mail where I could get mail. You can also go to
Hotmail.com. Personally I don’t like the layout of Hotmail and prefer
viewing in MSN Mail.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks

Another thought:

When I go to “Help Settings---Status and Support---Parental Controls†I get
an error “Identifying Account†& “Retrieving Permissionsâ€

When I go to “Help & Settings---Settings---Parental Control---Parental
Control Settingsâ€
I get the message “We were unable to retrieve parental control settings at
this time. Please try again later.â€

The problem must be in my computer because when I log on using my wife’s
account [on my computer] I get the same error. When I use my wife’s laptop
and login as myself (to msn) everything works as it should.

Both machines are also using Vista but don’t think it’s a problem with the
operating system.

thanks

Greetings,

The error you are seeing is misleading. The root cause is that you are
running a version of MSN Explorer that is older than 9.6. As of September
1st, Hotmail has turned off the email servers that were supporting the older
version of MSN email. You may have seen the emails about the DAV email
servers being shutdown.
Unfortunately, the MSN Explorer is interpreting the error being sent back
from the hotmail server as a parental control error. My apologies for the
confusion.

In order to start seeing your email in MSN Explorer again, you will need to
upgrade to the lastest version (9.6). Please go to
http://membercenter.msn.com, sign in and select the option to download the
latest MSN Software.

Thank you,
Berit Benson
