Thank you for the response.

To install Win 2000Pro parallel to a current 2000Pro
installation I would be required to create a new partition
leaving the original partition contatining my needed data,
is this correct?

Thank you for the support

Kindest Regards

No, you can install to a new directory something like \winnt2

I have been trying to find when I would indicate during the
installation of 2000 a new directory named such as WINNT2.
I don't want to proceed without being positive of required
actions.

Just so you are clear on my hardware: I have a Maxtor 189Gb
HD with a SCSI card, I have the driver disc for the SCSI
card also.

At the setup Windows 2000Pro screen I am presented with the
following options:
1 To setup windows 2000 on the selected item, press ENTER.
2 To create a partition in the unpartitioned space, press C.
3 To delete the selected partition, press D.

Should I opt for 1 or 2, and then would I be able to create
the new directory WINNT2 after one of these options are
chosen to enable the parallel installation??

Thanks for the help

If setup does not find the original install then you may want to be on the
safe side and create a new partition (assuming you have unallocated space
for this)

You'll want to boot the Windows 2000 setup disks or CD-Rom. The set of four
install disks can be created from your Windows 2000 CD-Rom; change to the
\bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute makeboot.exe (from dos) or
makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the prompts.

Then *F6* very early and very important (at setup is inspecting your system)
in the setup to prevent drive controller detection, and select S to specify
additional drivers. Then later you'll be prompted to insert the manufacturer
supplied Windows 2000 driver for your scsi controller in drive "A"

If you wait and then S to specify additional drivers, then it may be too
late as Windows 2000 Setup at this point may have already assigned the
resources your drive's controller is wanting to use.
