Parallel Dialup/broadband site?

Those who would visit my livestock association sites are about evenly
divided dialup/broadband. I'm thinking perhaps I should have a simple
home page where the user could make a selection according to his
connection speed.

My rationale is that broadband users expect more illustration and
interaction. It would also make it easier to sell page sponsorship
ads.

Thoughts/experience please?

Why would dial-up users expect illustration and interaction?

Correction: should be "Why would dial-up users expect *less* illustration
and interaction?

It is not that they expect less. They just cannot use more. I don't
have any hard evidence other than my own experience.

I lived in a city of 400,000 and could not get DSL. They were just
getting digital cable when I moved. 26.4k was the fastest dialup. An
email attachment better be small at that speed. Videos were out also.
Forget about downloading software. It was upsetting to click a link to
a page that had more than one photo. Waiting, waiting...

Surprisingly, out in the country, I now have 1.2meg wireless. For the
first few months, I was like a starving person. I was amazed at what I
had been missing. I couldn't surf and read enough. Heck, I saved half
the WWW. :)

It is like the question of "What screen size should I design for?" The
answer is the same. Cater to the most users. In my case, that is
dialup. But I can offer more to those who can utilize it.

I was curious what others had experienced.
