After a long and happy time with v.5 I finally decided to get up to
date and have just installed v.9 Deluxe.

None of my files are recognized by v.9 - they are still on the hard
drive - just not a part of my v.9 program.

ScanSoft's reply is as follows:

Hi Patrick,

Thank you for contacting Scansoft Customer Service.

Unfortunately, you need to manually rename the files form your version
5 to the version 9 because you have made a big jump in upgrading your
software. It is normal that you need to rename each files if you have
Paperport Version 6 or lower that that.

Let us know if you need further assiatance.

Best regards,

Jeffrey

I don't think I want to recreate almost 100 "folders", try to
determing what goes in which folder and then rename several hundred
files. v.5 was doing all I needed and if necessary I can alway go
back to that one.

I've looked at the manuals for v.6 and for v.7 and saw nothing
mentioned about incompatible file structures with earlier versions.
For those who upgraded to v.7 - - do you recall anything that made the
transition easier or did the company just decide to say "tough luck -
you're stuck" as they are doing now.

Thank you,
Pat

There are many utilities that can do a mass rename. Isn't it just the file
extensions that need renaming?
One such utility is named "The Rename".

Ren in command can rename every file on the hard drive with one command
line.
Yes, it is "ren". Not a typo.

To get help for ren type cmd in Start>Run<enter>. Then in command window
type Ren /?<enter> The command prompt is also in Start>All
Programs>Accessories.

Do a search of Tucows.com or Hotfiles.com for file rename utilities.

We've been over this a lot on the Yahoo! group of PaperPort freaks.

Keep up with developments at:

It is where the "experts" hang out.
