Hello All:

I recently upgraded from Office 97 to XP and that miserable paperclip is
back telling me that I'm typing a letter.
I don't remember what I had to do in the earlier version to get rid of it
and it's driving me nuts.

The knowledge base wasn't much help it had me activate the policy editor
however I had no Office tab nor any apparent provisions for adding one when
I brought the policy editor up.

Would someone be so kind as to tell me how to get rid of it. I don't want
any paper clips, funny dogs, or the like, just a plain old help button. <G>

Thanks

Paul Anton

From Word 2002 Help:

Use Help without the Office Assistant
1.. To get Help without using the Office Assistant, the Assistant must be
turned off.
How?

1.. In the Assistant balloon, click Options.
If the Office Assistant balloon isn't visible, click the Assistant.

2.. On the Options tab, clear the Use the Office Assistant check box.
Note To turn on the Assistant at any time, click Show the Office
Assistant on the Help menu.

Tip

a.. You can remove the Assistant permanently by reinstalling Microsoft
Office and choosing not to install the office Assistant.
2.. On the Help menu, click Microsoft Program Name Help.
If the Contents, Answer Wizard, and Index tabs aren't visible, click Show
..

3.. In the Help window, do the following:

a.. Click the Contents tab to view the table of contents for Help.

b.. Click the Answer Wizard tab to type a question about the Microsoft
Office program in which you are working. Type the words you want to search
for, and click Search.
c.. Click the Index tab to search for specific words or phrases, or
choose from a list of keywords.
You can control the list of topics found by adding or removing keywords
from your search. In this way, you can narrow your search until only the
most relevant topics and keywords remain in the list.

Note Not all languages support the Answer Wizard.

Hi, I always do the following:

1. Right click my mouse over the paperclip
2. Left click "options"
3. Uncheck the "Use the Office Assistant" box
4. Left click "Ok"

Hope that helps!
Heather
