If you aren't seeing any smudging or banding, it probably isn't necessary.
Honestly, the height difference isn't that great, in terms of the head
spacing.
Epson printers have used a number of adjusting for different paper
thickness over the years. Many earlier models just used mechanical levers.
Some newer models use software controlled adjustments, however, driver
selection can change more than head spacing, such as amount of ink used,
dot size, etc. Every paper has unique characteristics, which is why each
printer company specs their own papers (even if someone else makes it for
them), taking advantage of the characteristics of the specific paper
surface and qualities.
I find it is often just better to make some small sample prints and
compare.
