Back on 1/24/05 we started a thread, but I still have been unable to render
my movie to DV cameria tape. (I have now successfully saved the movie to my
hard drive, and also to a CD-RW, except for the last 5 minutes I only had
sound due to being low on virutal memory.) Per your suggestion to remove any
of the "DV-AVI files from the temperary folder that MM was using, I have
removed all of the ".tmp" files, but there is still a lot of "stuff" still in
that default folder: (C:\Documents and Settings\Tmp\Local Settings\Temp\)
This apperaently helped, because when I tried again to render the move, the
error message,"movie did not transfeer to your DV camera", did not come up
untill after 40 minutes and it had been coming up after 5 minutes before.
This 23 minute movie, which I have suscessfully rendered before, takes about
2.5 hours.
1) How do you determine if any DV-AVI files were left in the tempory folder,
so that I can remove them...Do they have a certain file extension?

Also I tried to just replace the C:\ temperary file with D:\ but it wouldn't
let me change. So I typed in D:\WUtemp\ and that seemed to take, so I tried
to render again , but the same error message came up after about 5 minutes.
2) Is there a proper proceedure to change the C:\ temperary folder to D:\ ?
Thanks again for your help.

Hello,

He does not seem to have noticed your message....what you need though is a
program I wrote just for this kind of situation. Its called Delete Dross
and is available from the "Old" part of my website....make sure you check
out the brief tutorial on how it works...You probably won't need to watch
it...it really is easy . You can get the file extension you need to delete
simply by looking in those folders that contain them...i

Delete Dross removes at least 1 meg of unwanted files from my system every
time I use it....I run it as a matter of routine several times a day and
always before doing a defrag. You will see that it runs rather
fast...several times faster than the same procedure in the Windows Search
routine and you will almost certainly find that the first time you use it
you will be asked if you want to delete many megabytes of data but don't
worry, provided you are certain that the list of files shown should be
deleted you will have no problems. Do ask in here if you are uncertain of
what to do.

Hi Randy,

When changing the location of MM2's temporary files, it's best to browse to
the folder you want to use rather than typing it in.... that'll preclude any
typos.

On the temporary files that Movie Maker creates, look in the folder for new
subfolders with names like the one I just created: WMT1D.tmp

It's a folder and under it is another folder with a really long
alpha-numeric name like {AE742F52-958A....etc, etc.).... in that subfolder
is the temporary video file with the normal name of your movie.

PapaJohn,
Does saving a movie to the hard drive require a rendering process that uses
a temperary file? I have done this and the movie playes fine on the hard
drive. But I still can't render this movie to my cameria tape!

Yes...

test your setup by saving something as a DV-AVI file on your hard drive and
use the WinDV utility (link on the Digital Camcorders > Intro page of my
site if you need it) to copy it from there to your camcorder.
