running sp2. 1st time i connected the camcorder xp detected the camera and
i successfully downloaded video into Windows Movie Maker. The connection was
IEEE1394. All subsequent attempts to connect the camcorder are not detected
by xp. same thing happened when i connected camera to another computer
(detect initially, then nothing). Additionally i exchanged the camcorder for
a different one (same model) and xp failed to detect even on the first
attempt. Camera came with no software. Firewire cable is berand spanking
new.

i automatically update xp so it shouldnt be a hotfix or anything like that,
right? I am running xp on a sony vaio vgc-ra826g. Its a fine media machine.
I am using the 4 pin 1394 connection on front of machine. there is a 6 pin
1394 connection at back. what in the wide wide world of sports is going on
here? anyone having similar issues.

It has quite simply defaulted to that device/software.
You just open Win Movie maker, select capture.....
and it will capture.

This is not the case as Movie Maker does not detect any video capture devices.

that's a problem with TWAIN. windows xp "knows" the device but when you
unplugged it, it was deleted from twain folder in c:\windows
