Palette problem

The palette of available colours are different between spreadsheets.

It would be reasonable to expect any two spreadsheets on the same computer
using the same software (Excel 2003) which is installed only once to have
the same palette of colours available on all spread sheets. This is a
problem because I use certain colour combinations of background (fill
colour) and font colour to identify certain conditions. However, in some
instances these are not always available.

Any idea why this is happening and how to get around the problem please.

Color pallettes are stored with the workbook. If you have them both open,
then you can use Tools/Options/Color/Copy Colors From... then pick the other
workbook - now the pallettes will be the same.

Thanks bob. Given that only one instance of Excel has ever been installed
and I know I havn't changed the colour pallette it should not, logically,
have changed. Have you any idea how the colour pallette option has become
changed?

Bob,

Your answer was spot on! Now I know how to change the pallette I have
checked all my spreadsheets. All the spreadsheets needing to be changed
were first generated some years ago and it is now apparent that the
differing pallettes was not due to an Excel configuration issue but rather
because the older spreadsheetshee were generated by an older version of
Excel. It's so obvious now I have the key.

Bob Umlas very kindly gave me the answer to a problem I have had for quite
some time with inconsistencies of palettes over various spreadsheets. I
wonder if Bob or anyone else could help with another longstanding problem.

When I choose a graph (any graph) and change the range (scale) of months
(mmm yyyy) at the bottom of the graph, all dates in all spreadsheets which
are open at the time or are subsequently opened are changed to be displayed
as dd/mm/yy. This can be overcome by saving all spreadsheets, closing and
then re-opening Excel which is something which, logically, should not
happen.

How can this be prevented please?
