Everything I have found in regards to this involves the registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
PaintDesktopVersion is default at zero, or at least I thought, I double
checked it; even reset it to one, then zero, then nine, then zero, with a
reboot between each and the darn thing doesn't go away.
I have also forced my idle processes thinking that maybe the registry isn't
properly updating, but all other changes are immediate and obvious except
this one.
Most of my system services are off, although I don't see the relevance MS
tech support seemed to think a sfc and turning all my services back on would
make a difference, but so far they're suggestions have been useless.
Windows XP Home Edition Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254 (Service Pack 2)
is the OS, so blatantly displayed on my desktop.
Please help!
