Paint cannot save this fle. Save was interrupted, so your file has not been save

System is win2000 pro. When I save a file as a bitmap in
paint, it is ok. When i try to save it as a jpeg or gif I
get this error msg:

"Paint cannot save this fle. Save was interrupted, so your
file has not been saved".

Can anyone help?

Try cleaning out temporary files and folders and then try it again.

Then, REBOOT after workaround(s) for change(s) to be effective, a step which is not included in the above article.
