painstakingly slow bring up "My Computer"

When I open "My Computer" it takes my system several minutes to bring it up.
What I get is a blank screen with the search flashlight swinging back and
forth for several minutes. This is maddening to me. I have run virus scans
and spy scans from three different software companies and my computer appears
to be "clean". This is a problem I have been trying to resolve for about a
month now. I want to make a complete backup of my system but would like to
get this problem fixed first. Does anybody have any clues as to what my
problem may be?

Thanks in advance,
Patti

Patti,

It might help if you could provide some additional information:
1. What version of Windows are you running? XP home, or Pro, or some
other?
2. What make/model is your computer?
3. How much RAM do you have?

More information is better than less.

Also, I think that you might mean "Painfully slow". Painstakingly means
to do something very carefully.

Try this:
Go to START | RUN | and type in "msconfig"
Then in the System Configuration window open the SERVICES tab.
Scroll down to Windows Image Acquisition and uncheck it.
Close the msconfig windows and let it restart windows.

Then check your My Computer access. It hat fixes the problem, post back for a more permanent fix.

How do we determine which of all the apps running in Services and
StartUp are actually necessary...disable them one at a time and watch
for errors?
