Painfully slow Outlook Express in XP

Recently Outlook Express is starting up painfully slow,
but once opened seems to work ok, except for changing
users.Have been using Incredimail but want to return to
using OE. I am using XP and tried to re-install OE over
the top of existing program but no joy. Please can someone
help?

I had the same issue and went to ms tech site to no
avail. loaded ms outlook and it flys

Thanks for the suggestion of Outlook Johnnie, but have
already tried it. Worked for a couple of days and now
seems to be going the same way. Also tried reinstalling
the msoe50.inf file but windows couldn't find the file on
my SP1 disk. Now resigned to a full reinstall of XP !
Thanks again and thanks also to Thorsten Matzner for other
suggestion.
 
What have you done/not done.

Have you stuffed about with messenger?
How much is in your folders. Where/when is it slow.
 
Hello David, no i haven't touched Messenger other than
disable it but have done the same on another computer with
no problem at all. The problem is that OE takes forever to
load and to switch user accounts. My daughter receives
dozens & dozens of emails and sometimes has a couple of
hundred waiting on the server, then downloads and deletes
majority of them in one go ! I have gone through the
automated compacting procedure etc and deleted everything
in all of the accounts.
I have also tried to reinstall IE and Outlook express but
no change. Also tried to reinstall the msoe50 INF file as
suggested by someone else but couldn't do it.Have tried to
use Outlook but that seems to be going the same way as OE.
I have been using Incredimail but i can't seem to get the
email virus scan in AVG 7 to function with it so would
like to revert to using OE as i know AVG works fine with
that. Is it possible to remove IE & OE and reinstall just
those apps, or once all avenues are exhausted does it mean
a full reinstall of XP ? That is the easy, if somewhat
time consuming option of course, but i would like to try
and conquer this problem first ! (With a lot of help if
possible.)
Would appreciate any advice.

Gigahertz, 512mb DDR, 80 Gig hdd.
 
I wouldn't rule out your anti-virus. Try removing it. (It's easy enough to reinstall). I don't know what an incredimail is exactly (though it looks like something one would use to make people avoid one).

Whhen you say OE is slow, how is it slow, what operations are slow, when is slow, etc

The thread I got suggests it's slow on startup. What exactly happens as you start it, eg does the window appear instantly but you don't get control? What does the status bar say. How did you disable messenger?

I had a case where OE would seem to lock up when downloading new mail
from the server. Turned out it was my anti-virus with the problem. It
was locking up when it went to scan the incoming mail. I un-installed
the anti-virus, then re-installed it, and everything was back to normal
 
This was common when AV programs first started scanning email, though not common now.

Here is the fix you have been painfully looking for.

Sometimes removing or disabling Windows (or MSN) Messenger causes OE to
open slowly. This will shown by an entry in the system error log: The
server {FB7199AB-79BF-11D2-8D94-0000F875C541} did not register with
DCOM within the required timeout. To fix this, open Regedit and
navigate to this key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
\CLSID
\{FB7199AB-79BF-11d2-8D94-0000F875C541}
\InProcServer32

In the right-hand pane, double-click on the (Default) value and delete
whatever is entered there, leaving it blank. Click OK. Now perform
exactly the same step with the key directly underneath, namely

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
\CLSID
\{FB7199AB-79BF-11d2-8D94-0000F875C541}
\LocalServer32

Once both (Default) values are empty, OE will open normally.
