Each time I boot-up I get the message 'Your computer has
no paging file or the paging file is too small'
I then go through the specified procedure to set a paging
file and then re-boot. Lo and behold I get the same
message. I have tried ticking system managed size'with
the same result.

Do you have Intel Application Accelerator installed?

If so, uninstall it » set your page file » reboot to verify it » download the newest version of IAA and install it.

If you have a mobile chipset, the latest version does not support it. 2.2.2
is the last supported version for that.
