Is it possible to create an XPe image that does not use the paging
file?
If so what setting or component would I need to configure in the
Target Designer?
thanks

You can enable or disable pagefile on HAL's component settings page in TD (Standard PC, ACPI PC, etc.)

Hello,

This question really needs a deeper consideration... while XPE set the
pagefile to disabled by default, turning it off does not mean XP won't
use any virtual memory... it will still use whatever memory it can
find, you cannot pinpoint where it gets the space. Try setting up a
machine using FBWF with pagefile OFF, I see the C:\ usage goes up
200Mb for no apparent reason! I can't find where the 200Mb gone once I
have FBWF enabled... By disabling it, I get the 200Mb back from C:
\..... very very strange!

Also, I configured a machine running with pagefile OFF, even with no
EWF, the RAM usage slowly creeps up. When I turned the pagefile on,
the RAM usage gets re-allocated to the pagefile, hence freely up some
RAM space.

We were under the impression that EWF was caching too much in its
overlay, but it looks like XP needs pagefile to efficiently free
unused RAM.

Now we are thinking that XP may not be a good candidate for long 24/7
operation because it will simply run out of memory without being
rebooted. It has been a bit of pain to find this out ourself, MS
should have documented this side-effect by turning pagefile OFF!!

Think carefully before you do so.
