I have 768MB of Ram and I read somwhere recently,
although I can't find where, that yhou can tweak the
registry so that windows does not use virtual memory
until most of your ram has been used.
I would appreciate any answers on where to perform this
tweak.

You don't, because it's NOT reliable and often breaks programs. There are
some programs that are coded to use virtual memory (and a goodly chunk of
it - at that). Without a sufficient amount, these programs will fail
(PhotoShop comes to mind, as do a few video editing programs).
