Hi,

I'm having a problem with my Windows XP Home Edition. It
keeps saying that the paging file is too small or is
missing, it has created a temporary one somewhere which
only holds 256mbs. I chose the custom option but it
doesnt change anything, and I've also tried re-installing
Windows, but the problem still persists. I have an AMD
Athlon XP 2000+, 512 MB RAM and 74.5 GB. Please help!

That article is pretty good but is completely lacking in some
important aspects.

One item that I did not see mentioned has to do with the unused
portions of memory allocation requests, which can be a pretty
significant factor in page file decisions. These unused portions can
easily add up to several hundred megabytes on a moderate to heavily
used system.

Also I did not see any mention about the advisability of always
keeping a small page file on the boot drive (e.g. 10 mb minimum 50 mb
maximum). Doing so helps to avoid a number of potential issues with
XP.
